Every Tuesday afternoon, Elena walked to the small library near her apartment. She loved reading mystery novels and drinking hot chocolate from her favorite blue cup. But one cold November day, something unexpected happened. On the way home, she sat on a wooden bench in the park to rest. When she stood up, she accidentally left her notebook behind. That notebook was not just any notebook — it was full of her poems and dreams for the future.
Two hours later, Elena noticed that her notebook was missing. Her heart started beating fast. She ran back to the park, but the bench was empty. The wind was blowing dry leaves everywhere. There was no notebook. She felt sad and angry at herself. "How could I be so careless?" she whispered. That night, she couldn't sleep. She kept thinking about all the poems she had written since last summer.
The next morning, Elena decided to put a small sign on the park bench. It said: "Lost: a green notebook with a flower sticker. Means the world to me. Please call Elena." She didn’t really believe anyone would call. But sometimes life surprises you.
Three days passed. Then, on Friday evening, her phone rang. A man’s voice said, "Hello, Elena? My name is Marco. I think I found your notebook. Can we meet tomorrow at the same bench at 10 a.m.?" Elena could not believe her ears. She said "Yes!" immediately and smiled for the first time that week.
When they met, Marco was sitting on the bench, holding the green notebook carefully. He looked about sixty years old, with kind eyes and a grey hat. He explained, "I found it under some leaves. I saw your poems — they are beautiful. My late wife also used to write poems. That’s why I wanted to return this to you personally." Elena felt a warm feeling in her chest. "Thank you so much," she said, almost crying. "You don’t know what this means to me."
Marco and Elena started talking. They discovered they both loved classical music and old black-and-white movies. Marco invited her for tea at his small bookshop nearby. Over the next few weeks, they became good friends. Elena even helped Marco arrange a small poetry corner in his shop. And every Tuesday, after the library, she would visit Marco and read him one of her new poems.
Sometimes a lost thing can lead to something found — not just a notebook, but a friend. Elena learned that mistakes can bring unexpected gifts. And Marco always said, "The universe has a funny way of connecting people." So if you ever lose something important, don’t give up hope. Maybe, it will bring you a story worth telling.
